Le Concepteur or CoachThem?

Two Canadian tools. CoachThem covers several sports and a large drill bank; Le Concepteur only does hockey, is written in French, and runs your whole season. Here's what each one does well.

In short

CoachThem is based in Toronto. You draw drills, build practice plans and share them with your staff, for hockey, lacrosse, soccer and ringette. The site has a version translated into French. If you want a tool that only does hockey, written in French in Quebec, and that stays with you from day one of camp to the last game, Le Concepteur is made for that.

What CoachThem does well

  • A big drill bank

4,000+ hockey drills in their marketplace, and thousands more in lacrosse and soccer. If you coach two sports, one subscription covers both.

  • Partnerships with hockey bodies

CoachThem lists Hockey Alberta, ALLIANCE Hockey, the OMHA and Hockey Calgary as partners. If your association is one of them, that's a serious argument.

  • A longer trial

10 days free with no credit card, versus 7 with us. And an iOS app to pull up your practice plans.

What Le Concepteur does better

  • Written in French, not translated

CoachThem is an English tool with a version translated into French. Le Concepteur is the reverse: written in French by a Quebec coach, then translated to English. The vocabulary, age groups and examples are those of minor hockey here. And it's not just the interface: every drill in the bank, description included, is written in both French and English.

  • Your whole season, from camp to the last game

Le Concepteur goes beyond drills and practice plans. You run your training camp (evaluations, cuts), evaluate your players all season long, set your goals and split your season into blocks, build your practices and send your playbook to your players. CoachThem's site describes neither running a camp nor a season planning tool.

  • Turbo Hockey, built in

The method of Stanley Cup champion Stephan Lebeau is inside the app. Pick a tactic and see the technical skills it requires, their priority for your age group, and whether to introduce, improve or consolidate them.

  • Animation and the playbook

You animate your drills step by step, and send your playbook to your players with a simple link, no account. CoachThem's site doesn't mention drill animation.

  • An association plan from 10 coaches

CoachThem's Association plan requires at least 8 teams. Ours starts at 10 coaches, with 30 to 50% off. A small association can get in.

  • Switch tools without starting over

Your drills are already in another tool? Send them as a PDF or screenshots: we rebuild them in Le Concepteur for you. The price depends on how many drills there are and how complex they are: we send you an estimate, with the timeline.
