How it runs

This is what your players need to understand before the puck moves.

Station #1: Pivot drill

F Quick start. F pivots forwards to backwards (right) around the first cone. Maximum 1 or 2 crossovers. F skates backwards (C-cut) to the goal line. Complete stop. F Quick start.

F pivots forwards to backwards (left) around the second cone. F skates backwards to the goal line. Complete stop. F repeats the sequence for the third cone.

Station #2: Pass, carry, and shoot

Start from the corner. F skates toward the coach. Coach passes to F. F carries the puck briefly. F passes back to the coach. F skates around the cone at the top of the zone. F receives a pass from the opposite group. F collects the puck.

F shoots on net.

*** Variation ***

Add a puck to the pivot drill.

Add an obstacle in Station #2 before F shoots (glove or stick on the ice, etc.).

Coach Steve's take

Pivots are the base of everything that comes after, even if they look less exciting than a shot. A young player who pivots well skates more freely with the puck. Start without a puck, then add it once the movement is clean. At U7, it should never feel like work: keep it light and quick. The puck comes when the feet are ready.
